The Godfather

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

The aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty in postwar New York City transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant youngest son.

On May 13, 2022, I finally watched The Godfather and holy shit this movie was a fucking masterpiece and some moments in this movie made me want to say “What the fuck is going on?” and I have heard The Godfather is considered one of the best movies ever made, and it deserves to be on that list and it was time for me to see this movie for myself and I can confirm this is the best movie ever made after watching it. The Godfather explores themes of family, crime and corruption in this epic drama. The plot is compelling and well structured for example just when I thought this movie was over *BAM* more came and it’s like Casino Royale again just thinking it was over then it turns out there was more. The way this started off confused me because I knew what was going on but I didn't know what this had to do with anything but this gets explained later on. Michael is mentioned a lot but I'm like who is Michael and my big brother is like “Who is Michael” and when we meet Michael and Michael wants nothing to do with the family which is shocking because I wonder if his father will allow that to happen but that changes later on. I thought this show would have action, drama, twists, but let me warn you this movie starts slow. You know that feeling when the roller coaster is slowly going up the track and it’s boring but then out of nowhere the roller coaster goes down the hill and in this movie Marlon Brando is a legend as Don Couleone I mean the actor who plays him is a fucking genius and I mean just his voice gives chills down my spine. I remember James Caan was in this movie because it’s been referenced in “The Movies that Made Us” the mention of the name James Caan for the making of “Elf” and so I asked my dad and big brother to point him out and when watching the movie I forgot about James Caan and then it came to my mind and at the wedding I learned James Caan plays “Sunny” and holy shit was he a fucking badass and I would never want to mess with him and there we sometimes where I thought I saw Sunny but it turns out to be someone else. My Dad and big brother said that the bakery man was a badass and I thought there would be fighting but nope and I wounder what they mean by the baker being a badass and they explain to me “The bakery man and his family is going to be loaded for generations” there was a moment where I thought this movie was over because the climax of this was solved and usually that's when the movie ends but my big brother confirmed that wasn’t the case for this movie and there was this transition which confused me because Michael’s girlfriend asked to call him and we cut a girl picking up the phone was Micheal’s wife finding out the truth and from the hair alone I thought It was Michael and his wife fighting turns out I was not them and what happened next made me cry because it was so sad. Don while talking with other mafia members he dosen't try to fight he tries to talk things out which shocked me because just by this you know he doesn't want to fight and just want to talk it out. There is this moment while people are setting up for something while a baby is getting baptized and I'm wondering “what the fuck is going on” but all will explain with time. The movie was almost over and I was both tired and shocked by this movie because it was late. After watching this movie I concluded that The Godfather is one of the all-time greatest movies. I recently saw it for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. Then the next morning my big brother recommend “The Godfather Part 2” and I didn't want to because The Godfather already took a lot out of me and I needed a break. My conclusions is that The Godfather is an absolute masterpiece which every single person should definitely watch if you haven't already. I recommend this movie for people who love crime, drama and for people who love mafia movies and people who love movies with action
